I've lost my serial number for Object Desktop: Network Edition. How do I get it back?
Though we do encourage that you write your serial number down, so that it does not get lost, we do understand that mistakes happen from time to time. Because of this we have a lookup page where you can enter your email address and the system will search our database for your serial number. Once found it will then be emailed to you. To enter our serial number look up page click here.

I've ordered Object Desktop, what now?
After your order processes on the secure commerce server, you should be taken to a website containing your download and registration information. You will also receive this information via email to the address you provided on the webstore order form.  This download link will direct you to download Stardock Central, which is the main download manager for Object Desktop and other Stardock programs.  Stardock Central can be downloaded from here.

Installing Object Desktop
Be sure that you have uninstall any trial versions of the Object Desktop programs you've previously downloaded.

The first thing you will need to do is create a Stardock.net account, or log into your existing Stardock.net account, which you can do from http://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp

Once you've logged into your account, the following page will prompt you to download Stardock Central. Download and install Stardock Central. This is the utility that will give you access to all the enhanced versions of the Object Desktop programs, as well as any upgrades and new releases throughout your subscription period.

Open Stardock Central. Go to Tools, and select Register Products. You will need to select the Object Desktop tab in the window that this brings up. Select "Object Desktop Subscription" from the drop down list of Products, and enter your name, email address, and Object Desktop serial number. Hit the Update button, and OK to close this window and return to the main Stardock Central.

Select Software (the first tab in Stardock Central), and within the Software tab, select the Object Desktop tab. Here you can select the individual components of Object Desktop for download and install. These will be enhanced versions of the programs.

I can't connect to the server or "Logging on" message displays for 30+ seconds
After entering your information, when the Stardock Central connects to the server it verifies your information against a local database. Even accounting for network traffic, lots of queries being performed on the database, etc., this process should take no more than 30 seconds (at the absolute most) to verify your information and present you with the component download list. If it is taking longer than this, it is possible that one of the servers is being rebooted for maintenance, you are behind a firewall/proxy server (see the next item), or information under the Register Products section in Stardock Central may not be configured properly.

Downloading components
Once you have registered Object Desktop in Stardock Central, press the Update button and OK to close this window and return to the main Stardock Central window.  Select Software (the first tab in Stardock Central), and within the Software tab, select the Object Desktop tab. Here you can select the individual components of Object Desktop for download and install. These will be enhanced versions of the programs.

What is the SDS Bitmaps component?
SDS Bitmaps is a collection of ~25 Windows bitmap (.BMP) images that are installed to your \Windows or \WinNT directory. These can be used as textures/backgrounds in Control Center, WindowBlinds, or any other application that can make use of them.

How can I install Object Desktop on a machine not connected to the Internet?
We do offer Object Desktop CDs for the cost of shipping and handling to current users of Object Desktop.  Email sales@stardock.com for more information.

Otherwise, you can install Stardock Central and Object Desktop onto a computer connected to the Internet. Download the components you would like installed on the other machine. Use the Archive command under the File menu in Stardock Central to create backup .ZIPs of these components. The backups will be saved in the Backup folder in your SDCentral directory.  Transfer this file to the intended target machine with a copy of Stardock Central and use the Restore command under the File menu to restore each component.

I had to reinstall Windows, do I have to redownload?
If you still have the contents of the Object Desktop directory (the .CAB files and .CAB.CMI), you should be able to reinstall Stardock Central to the same directory and use the Restore function under the File menu in Stardock Central to select and restore from these backup copies.

I have a desktop and a laptop, can I use my Object Desktop both?
Yes. Object Desktop (and most other Stardock products) are licensed "like a book" (in that only one person can really be reading a book at any one time). Provided both copies are not in use at the same time (e.g. someone working on the desktop machine with Object Desktop at the same time it is being used by someone on the laptop), your license for Object Desktop may be used for a copy on a second machine.
